         <title>Whiteley Tribute to Paul Lennon</title>
         <description>[4.55 p.m.]
Mr WHITELEY (Braddon) - As one of the new boys on the block, compared to some, having only spent six short years in this place, it would be remiss of me not to make a short contribution to publicly acknowledge the serious contribution that has been made by a Tasmanian, Paul Lennon, for nearly 20 years as an elected member of parliament. I reflect on it from time to time and think that the six short years that I have had has added 20 years to my life, so I can only imagine what 18 or 20 years may have felt like to Paul Lennon.

<title>Matter of Public Importance - Integrity in Government</title>
<description>Mr WHITELEY (Braddon) - Mr Speaker, we can see the very reasons why, in the Supreme Court of Tasmania, the Premier of this great State was labelled as &apos;unsatisfactory&apos; - that is, hostile.

<title>2008 State of the State Response</title>
<description>What was interesting about the Premier’s 2008 Agenda yesterday was it was devoid of any reference to health, aside from motherhood statements like “we must continue to invest strategically in our health system”.

All of our public hospitals will tell you that we are not investing wisely in our health system.

<description>Mr WHITELEY (Braddon) - The issue of health is a top-of-the-mind matter for Tasmanians at this time. Tasmanians know that there are many problems within our health system and they are also wise enough to understand that decisions today impact on the outcomes of tomorrow. </description>

         <title>Human Cloning Bill</title>
<description>Mr WHITELEY (Braddon) - Mr Speaker, we are here today to debate one of the
most important ethical questions ever to come before this Parliament. The
Human Cloning and Other Prohibited Practices Amendment Bill 2007 seeks to
allow the creation of embryonic humans for experimentation and ultimate
destruction. The science may be complicated and I accept that, but the
basic ethical question is simple. Is it right or is it wrong to clone an
embryonic human in order to perform destructive research on them?
